In close coordination with the various surgical disciplines, a patient is thoroughly examined and given extensive information about the best anesthesia options available to him, regardless of whether he will undergo a general or local anesthesia. This occurs either in the pre-operative out-patient clinic, or during admission into the hospital. The anesthetic ensures a pain-free and low risk surgical intervention. During the operation, the anesthesiologist monitors the depth of the anesthesia and all other vital organ functions in the patient. The department's equipment conforms to the most modern standards. After the operation, the patient is taken to the recovery room where he is cared for by his anesthesiologist and a nursing team especially trained in anesthesia. The pain therapy initiated during the operation will be maintained until the patient has little or no pain.
The department is integrated into the inter-disciplined concept of intensive care medicine. Special assignments include respiratory therapy, stabilizing cardio-vascular medication, pain reduction, and enteral and parenteral nutrition for critically ill patients.
For patients suffering from chronic pain, a special pain consultation appointment can be arranged. The objectives of this therapy are to reduce pain and improve the patient's quality of life. Patients are treated in an interdisciplinary manner in the hospital, as well as on an ambulatory basis. The therapeutic procedure is determined by close collaboration with the involved medical specialties.
